What feelings arise when you think about what it means to surrender to the Lord? I mean to surrender EVERYTHING to Him. Yep, even your family, your money, and your future.

Often, I think there’s a bit of fear involved in that thought. Subconsciously, we think this means saying goodbye to what we are surrendering, possibly never seeing it again. Or maybe we think it means we are willing to allow something bad to happen.

I’ve been there. I’ve thought before that if I surrender my children into God’s hands, that might mean God will decide to take them home with Him and away from me. Or maybe if I surrender my finances, He’ll ask me to give it all away and live in poverty, barely scraping by.

This, my friends, is what the enemy wants you to believe.

What really happens when we surrender to the Lord?

It’s now in His hands. Let’s ponder the hands of our Lord.

  1. He formed man and woman, carefully and lovingly. He forms us in our mother’s womb. Whether we were planned in human eyes or not, we are held, formed, carefully and lovingly in the Father’s hands. Psalm 139 says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. The Hebrew word for fearfully means “to be held in awe”. You were held by God-in His hands- as he oohed and aahed over you! What a picture!
  2. Jesus touched the sick with His hands and they were healed. Every single time. Every sickness, infirmity, disability, and demonic oppression were gone.
  3. He multiplied provisions with His hands. When Jesus broke bread and fed the thousands of people, it literally multiplied in His hands. The first time He multiplied the food, it says there were baskets leftover. The word for baskets was quite literally normal size baskets intended for carrying food. The second time He multiplied food, there were more baskets leftover and these baskets were actually large hampers, like what Paul hid in as they lowered him down the wall to escape. I think He was trying to show us something!

Maybe He wants us to understand that each time we surrender something to the Lord, He will go above and beyond what’s actually asked or expected.  There will be surplus!

  1. His hands were nailed to a cross in exchange for our eternal salvation. Let that sink in.
  2. He allowed Thomas to touch the scars in His hands to solidify Thomas’ faith and remove His doubt.

How many times have we needed this boost in faith and a good cleanup of all the doubt we carry?

Our Father is the definition of GOOD. When we put something, or someone, into His hands in a prayer of faith and surrender, only good will come of it. This doesn’t mean that nothing bad will ever happen. I believe it greatly decreases that chance, but when things happen as a result of living in a sin-filled, fallen world, He works those things out for the GOOD of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

What would you like to put into the good hands of Jesus today?
