In the dark one night, after getting out of the shower, I headed to bed and turned off the bathroom light. Crystal was in bed and all of the lights were out, so I was left temporarily blinded as I stumbled through the room, trying find my side of the bed. From my perspective it seemed that a perpetual minefield of random objects, that I could not see, had been placed between me and my destination. I managed to trip and kick my way through, barely making it to the other side. Pray for me.

The humorous part is that my wife could see the whole embarrassing ordeal with absolute clarity. Her eyes had adjusted to the light, and she cackled at me the whole way, telling me to wait for her to turn the light on. If I had listened, I would have been able traverse the room unobstructed. It’s a silly example, but very profound.

We are all blinded at times. Our fallen nature is to be proud and think that we understand things far more than we actually do. And sometimes we can find ourselves headed down a dangerous path completely unaware from our limited perspective. This is why it is so important to have people in your life to watch your blind spots.

We all want the wisdom to think, act, and make good decisions with clarity, patience, and confidence. But we must always be aware that there will be situations in life when we are partially blinded by ignorance, and when others can see what we cannot. If we truly are wise, we will humbly consider and accept the advise and cautions that our close friends and allies have to offer. The Lord gives clarity and understanding to the humble. It’s our pride that blinds us. Only a fool ignores the counsel of wise friends.

“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭12‬:‭15‬ ‭ESV

“so ignore them. They are blind guides leading the blind, and if one blind person guides another, they will both fall into a ditch.”” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭15‬:‭14‬ ‭NLT‬

“But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.”      2 Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭NLT‬
